maybe i'm all wet
but this town's too dry
cruise around to get
something to excite
another endless day
another fleeting night
one won't be enough
ten will be just right
pull up to the store
waiting in the line
bag has been secured
waiting at the light
slip in through the door
staying out of sight
won't happen anymore
it happens every night
walking down the stairs
made it there alright
crack release of air
trying to keep quiet
something makes a sound
sudden sense of fright
shuffle them around
sad attempt to hide it
quick gulp it down
stuff the corpse inside
the burial ground
its effect arrives
dizzy in a drowse
thirsty and tired
senses shutting down
hydrate or die
maybe i'm all wet
but this town's too dry
it still hasn't rained in a while
summers scorching and winters mild
record temperatures unrivaled
blistered skin the ultraviolet
index slowly creeping higher
devastating wildfires
set to break the water cycle
vegetative growth is stifled
lush green foliage turned a vile
shade of gray caught in a crisis
of our fragile only climate
to end this eight year drought is vital
devolution turning primal
dark clouds tease on the horizon
begging to the heavens
hydrate or die
how can it be raining outside
when it's been pouring inside
every night to imbibe
every week to deprive
every year amplifies
every molecule strives
reaching up to the sky
in this fight to survive
but what light can't deny
til you bite the hand that feeds you
til the hand comes back to greet you
with a fist compact to beat you to a pulp
into the ground
drowned in the brown of the dirt where you're found
look around now they're all down too
what else can you do
pour a little more out if that's the kinda thing that'll console you
when it's out the bottle
you know you can't bother
to give it a thought
cause you sure won't undo that
the only way back
is to pass it along to somebody who lacks
so go out to the tracks
in the blackest of black
nights are taking you back
it's a lot to unpack
let your conscience relax
and your ego collapse
and watch as it flows and seeps into the cracks
